attic insulation

Proper attic insulation is one of the most effective ways to reduce heat loss. We install high-performance insulation materials that improve thermal efficiency and help cut your energy bills.

Attic Insulation is one of the most effective and quickest ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency. A poorly insulated roof can account for up to 30% of total heat loss. By upgrading attic insulation to current standards, heat is retained within the living space, comfort improves immediately, and heating costs are reduced.

This upgrade is suitable for most Irish homes and is often the first step in a wider retrofit or BER improvement plan.

Key Benefits of Attic Insulation

  • Significant reduction in heat loss through the roof
  • Lower heating bills and improved energy efficiency
  • Immediate improvement in comfort, especially upstairs rooms
  • Fast installation with minimal disruption
  • Improved BER rating
  • SEAI grant support available, reducing upfront cost

SEAI Grant Support – Up to €1,500

Attic (Roof) Insulation may qualify for an SEAI Home Energy Grant, subject to eligibility and scheme conditions:

  • Detached house: up to €1,500
  • Semi-detached / End of terrace: up to €1,200
  • Mid-terrace house: up to €900
  • Apartment: up to €900

Grant funding is paid once works are completed and verified in accordance with SEAI requirements.

Installed in Line with SEAI & NSAI Requirements

All attic insulation works are carried out in accordance with:

  • SEAI Domestic Technical Standards & Specifications
  • SR 54 – Code of Practice for Energy Efficient Retrofit
  • NSAI guidance and certified insulation system requirements

Our installation process includes:

  • assessment of existing insulation depth and condition
  • upgrade to the required insulation thickness
  • protection of services and access points
  • safe detailing around attic hatches and storage areas

Ventilation – A Critical Part of Attic Insulation

Correct roof ventilation is essential to prevent condensation, mould growth, and timber decay.
As part of our works, we assess and ensure:

  • unobstructed eaves ventilation
  • correct airflow paths within the attic
  • compliance with SEAI ventilation guidance

Where required, ventilation upgrades are included to protect the long-term performance of both the insulation and the roof structure.

Is Attic Insulation Right for Your Home?

Attic insulation is suitable for:

  • older homes with insufficient or degraded insulation
  • properties undergoing energy upgrades or BER improvement
  • homeowners seeking a high-impact, cost-effective retrofit measure

A site-specific assessment is always carried out to confirm suitability and grant compliance before works commence.

A High-Impact Upgrade with Immediate Results

Attic Insulation offers one of the best returns on investment of any energy upgrade. When correctly installed and ventilated, it delivers immediate comfort improvements, reduced energy costs, and long-term protection of the roof structure.

As a contractor experienced in SEAI grant-funded, compliance-led retrofit works, we focus on correct assessment, detailing, and certification—ensuring your attic insulation performs as intended and stands up to inspection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Homeowners can access SEAI Home Energy Grants to help cover the cost of insulation upgrades. The exact grant amount depends on the measure and property type. For example, external wall insulation grants can be up to €8,000 for a detached home, €6,000 for a semi-detached, €3,500 for a mid-terrace, and €3,000 for an apartment. Other insulation grants (attic, cavity, internal wall) have their own values based on property type.

Yes. To be eligible for SEAI grant funding, all energy upgrade works including insulation must be carried out by an SEAI-registered contractor. This ensures the installation meets SEAI technical standards and is inspection ready. After works are completed, you’ll also need to submit a post-works BER assessment and signed documentation to SEAI to draw down the grant.

This depends on the measure and property size:

  • Attic or cavity insulation: typically, 1-2 days
  • Internal wall insulation: several days, depending on scope
  • External wall insulation: usually 2-4 weeks

A clear schedule is agreed in advance.
